He gambled in returning back time despite the risk of losing the memory. I think there’s some malfunction that happened in the spell which caused him to foresee the memories of her execution in the form of a nightmare
i don’t think so he is the one who wanted her dead, he showed her no care, cared more for his “real” daughter, i think it might be the night, he tried to stop it
