I think this shows how misaligned they are. He’s thinking they’re having this wonderful, sharing moment and finally know each other well enough for this….and she’s thinking about her mom getting murdered during the entire act. I don’t think he understands what he’s asking for, it’s beyond his ability to understand what she’s been though, and while he is well intentioned, I think he is messing this up.
