I think Daphne’s mom was dealing w ppd while losing her position, husband and life. Cheating is a trauma in of itself but i think that man and his affair partner actively messed with her and she leaned into it bc her public reputation was already tanking.
Even if her mom was that bad, she still should’ve had political allies that favor legitimacy (especially concidering she’s up against a maid) so i bet the harsh treatment those two dealt with is either because her mom’s side either didn’t know what was happening, made a deal to save themselves, or were driven out/murdered in order to boost the public narrative that Daphne’s mom was a full on villainess.
