Dang. MC calling people in poverty idiot scumbags are incompetent is judging it too harshly.
Why?
In this medieval fantasy setting, the struggles of the lower classes would have been even more worse than in the modern world. The MC’s statement is jarring and unrealistic in that context.
The rigid social hierarchy of a medieval society would have severely limited social mobility. People were often born into their station and had little chance of escaping poverty.
Healthcare, education, and basic necessities were far scarcer and less accessible than they are in modern times. A single illness or crop failure could easily plunge a family into destitution.
There were no government programs or social safety nets to assist those in need. People were largely reliant on the charity of others or their own meager resources.
Most people in the lower classes worked in physically demanding jobs with little pay and little protection.
She’s out of touch but she is a noble so it’s understandable and the author probably did this on purpose but I still don’t like her personality. Hope she’ll change into a better person soon enough
