1. Terryl is basically a cheat character but even though she is extremely OP, because of corruption she was still kept down by the empire. While she is indeed a remarkable talent… this makes you wonder how many academics and talented people have been wasted and shoved aside because of the empire. This just makes the empire to dumb to survive… I mean keeping people out of politics if they are rivals is one thing… but real talents should not be wasted like this. She was just a minor noble with absolutely no political power so allowing her to pass the imperial test should not have been a problem. With so little influence she would never have been able to affect those in power,,, and instead she would have become a really valuable asset. Sadly, instead she was just treated like a wallflower.
2. Terryl is tall for a woman, but the female knight Andarosa is even taller. I mean like… damn.
3. In real life, during the middle ages… no even as late as during the industrial revolution… childbirth was a very dangerous thing for women… so it is understandable that Terryl’s father is worried for her mother and does not wish to subject her to such dangers. However… considering all the strange and powerful magic they have at their disposal it seems rather strange that this would actually be true in this story… especially considering the magical and political/economic power her father has. I mean creating wormholes with magic is a simple thing for him… would keeping his wife from dying during childbirth be it with healing magic or otherwise… would this even be a problem?
I also want to know what happened. Thing is… it seems that Terryl actually knows what it is and it is just that the author decided to gloss over it since they don’t think it is important. Some authors do this kind of thing after all… they write stories with certain settings and themes and then gloss over/ignore key factors that are really important to the readers and genre simply because those things are not important to them. A perfect example of this is “Kuma Kuma Bear” where the author deliberately never tell readers what ANYTHING costs despite such details being the bread and butter of issekai novels. In the case of that author and how they always write how lazy they are, creating a character that is just as lazy… I believe that the author is actually trolling people and is mocking other issekai writers that always complain about how difficult it is to write.
But well, in the case “cinderella-wasnt-me” the background of her father and mother is actually important and something that probably most readers actually want to know about. But to the author is just a setting and not something that matters to what they want to write. The author of this story wants to write about how Terryl was really OP from the start. She was never a Cinderella that lacked talent and was just swept up by a prince… instead she was actually an OP character that was brushed aside by losers. So it isn’t that she is going to just go and make people suddenly see that she has changed and then be angry that they missed their chance to marry her before… no, this is a story where she was ALWAYS talented and all she needed was a little confidence in herself. She is never going to get anything handed to her… in fact if she had only been more confident in herself she would not even have needed her fathers help here… she could have gained everything on her own even as a kid. All she had to have done was to act more like a cheat character and use her talent to accrue money and power on her own. She should have easily been able to become a merchant even as a teenager… or a knight or a magician or other things… but instead she acted like what people saw her as… a lesser noble with no power or talent at all.
So it is this kind of story. What she needed was not training… what she needed was confidence and to realize that she could do anything if she just took charge of her life. This is what her father is really teaching her and why he told her that she focuses on things that doesn’t matter instead of doing what she has set out to do. He gave her an super hard training and she accomplished it because she did not have time to think that she would not be able too… there was no “if she could do it” rather “she would” because there was other option. So she acted as if doing it was already decided and that was why she was able to simply do it. There was not much time for her to second guess herself. This is also why he then decided to make her practice the sword with him because as soon as she got better at what she was doing and it became easier… ironically this gave her more chance to mull things over which in turn made her doubt herself… which hindered her growth. In other words, the more impossible the task was, the better it was for her… and this is why what happened between the father and mother was never important.
HOWEVER, that is to say it might become important later and we might find out what happened. Terryl however already knows… and it actually fits her personality that she doesn’t think about the details. Instead she just shows us that she doesn’t like it, but instead of moving forward she simply accepts is as something she can’t affect. Good or bad, it just is something she can’t change… so she just feels sorry for herself.
Anyway… I really hope that she stops being like this and actually start being so accepting of circumstances around her.
Despite getting a full set parents, it must be so burdensome trying to get to used to it. I love the teacher/tutor! She’s so sweet. and yes, Terryl, you are talented and amazing!
Btw your teacher was right, milady. You are now a RICH NOBLE RESPECTABLY LADY and without you knowing, you are one MF SMART LADY. Please know your own price, do not let your past put yourself down.
