Plus, in the next scene, she might get drunk and then start blaming him for not telling her all this personal information, in which case then I WILL get mad at her. But at this moment, I don’t think she’s done anything wrong.
I will say, if she had cried TO HIM and gotten mad AT HIM about all this, then yes she’d be a brat. But all this has been happening in her head so she wasn’t holding him responsible for breaking her heart. She is mad at herself.
I disagree with that. It’s true she should stop living her life for her brother, but I don’t think it marks her as a brat to cry about this. When she rejected his confession, she was in a really bad spot given (1) she is lying about who she is, including her gender and (2) she has every intention to give the position over to her brother so she couldn’t just get a boyfriend and then leave her brother to reject him later.
What alternative did she have? Spill her secret to this guy she sorta likes, but hasn’t known that long? This is the same guy who nearly fired her in her first couple of weeks based on a hunch she might be a spy, no actually proof. Why would she own him such a truth? Why would she risk her brother’s career for this guy?
And on the flip side, following that rejection, their relationship improved. She already sorta liked him at that time but as he’s proven himself to be a better person, she is considering “Well, maybe I can admit the truth and he won’t hate me.” That was her thought. She didn’t even get a chance to act on it because the very next day, she finds out his engagement AND that he can’t handle women. So learning that right now is like “ooh, I was confused all this time…but I never even stood a chance.” That’s heartbreaking to anyone.
