Are we gonna overlook the fact that, as first-year students, they are 17? I mean, if you were born late, 16 is understandable, but 17? They should have been considered to be second- or third-year students. In case you were unaware, students in Japan begin high school at the age of 15 and turn 16 in there first year, then second-year 16 and 17, and third-year students 17 and 18. Therefore, if they enroll in their first year of school at age 17, they will graduate from high school in their 20’s. I’m not sure if this was an incorrect translations and they meant, to say 15 or 16, but 17 is insane.
