He definitely could and should treat the son better. In most stories where the FL is the daughter the father is usually excessively doting on her while treating the other sons coldly, but the authors usually just make the sons just as cold and unaffected by it and joins doting on the sister. So this one we have a jealous kid taking his anger on an even younger kid unreasonably. I get why the duke might treat him harshly “u gon grow up to be in this position u need to stop acting like a lil bitch and toughen up” it’s tough love like how asian parents are usually to their own. Not saying it’s necessarily right but maybe that’s the thought behind it. Imo, he doesn’t view Reibella as his “own daughter” that should undergo the ways of the family but rather someone he needs to take care of, hence he’s treating her as a perpetual guest or a charge. But ofc the kid wouldn’t know that and instead of communicating with the father just like how the father should communicate with the son, he chooses to take his anger out on someone weaker that he could easily pick on.
I knew it! The reason Royan doesn’t like the FL is because his own father treats her better than he treats his own son. His father even bullies him, while treating the FL like a princess. If I were in his shoes, I’d feel resentful toward her too. Even though I am aware that the FL is a nice person☺️

*Fwiw, I think this depiction of the son is more realistic than other sons that make you think they’re 1000 years old inside
