Why is everyone so confused on this issue. It was stated clearly in the beginning that her mother was the cousin of Leo’s adoptive dad. So they are blood related as 2nd cousins. Felio(seriously they keep changing spelling of the names) didn’t really like Regina, so when she ran away, he didn’t really look for her.

If we really want to get technical about this Leo is actually her adopted father’s first cousin once removed. First, second, third etc is reserved for the children of each generation and once, twice etc is when referring to to cousin’s from different generations. You enter a rabbit hole if you try to figure both # cousin and # removed a person is from another in the family tree. Second cousin or niece work’s just fine depending on each family’s preference.

I have a large and messy family so this is easy for me to understand but hard to explain. But remember Leo is adopted, her biological father is a knight and her biological mother is her adoptive father’s cousin.
So technically Leo is her father’s 2nd cousin.
And everyone has two grandfathers and two grandmothers. One from each parent. So in the case of her maternal grandparents, one of them (the grandfather) is from a different noble household and the other (the grandmother) is a Boleoti.
I hope I explained it well enough so someone could understand. If not my bad and hopefully someone can add on to my explanation
Umm… I’m a little confused. If he’s the maternal grandfather but doesn’t have the characteristics of a Beleoti then does that mean he’s not from Beleoti but the grandmother? I only read the novel at the part where Leonia saw (I forgot her name) the stalker peeking at her so I don’t even know if I’m correct about the grandfather-grandmother thing I just said.
@Nilevcoa may be her grandmother was the Boleoti. I think the jolly characteristic of his grandfather is same chiki characteristic of her biological mom. 😅
