Coconutgirlie, the King is in control and aware the game/world resets. He controls the darkness and the entire lake city. They made it fairly clear, to me, when the council had gathered in the King’s room.
Several comments made by the King and his generals confirmed the people were turned. The King called the humans chattle and cows. Livestock to be used. Seems like they use them as both food and to make more monsters. The citizens that are still human are trapped by the king with the eternal life curse. That is my understanding as of now. I’ve only read up until this chapter while writing this comment.
I’ve been thinking about the lost cities and the big monsters in them. Im preeettty sure these monsters were once adventurers (or at least inhabitants of the city) from the past, and the “black rain” might have transformed them into what they are now 🫠🫠
another thing is that it could’ve happened when the city wasn’t under a lake or there was something / someone keeping its inhabitants from leaving (which could jus be the dark).
Not sure if this was already explained or not… 🤷🏾♀
