   Pros: the FL, Bebe, is delightful. While wise for her 5 years and precocious, she nonetheless comes across as childlike. She is fun to root for. Her resetting time does not render her an all-knowing adult (she, at most, rewound a few months each time). I like that she is not universally accepted and adored by the members of her new family, and that she has some lingering effects from her time in prison.

   Cons: The Stepdad figure is a basket of red flags. He abandoned all of his duties after the loss of his wife, despite having multiple young children to care for. He is inconsistent and has anger issues, such as literally cutting the arm off of a vassal who suggesting moving the FL and her comatose mom to the annex until their identities could be confirmed (which is reasonable, considering the many security issues stepdad has allowed from being checked out), yet other vassals are allowed to mouth off even more than this with no consequence. He is an absolute trash father. He told his children they must prove their worth to be in the family, and constantly compares them with each other. He doesn’t seem to understand that it’s normal for an 8 or 5 year old to have concerns and worries about him suddenly adopting a new person out of nowhere, and never speaks to them about how to integrate a new family member, even when they are shouting they don’t like it.
   He’d taken in another 5 year old when she was about 2-3, but never formally adopted her, letting her live in a perpetual state of anxiety that she had to prove herself enough to be accepted. He villainizes this 5 year old for freaking out and throwing tantrums when the new child appears as her apparent replacement. When he is suspicious that she isn’t is actual daughter, he drastically changes his behavior towards the 5 year old and demands she prove herself in a very dangerous way. He does not ever sit his own children down, who have seen this child as their sibling for years, to explain what is happening or the plan for if this girl isn’t their sibling. He does not reassure the preschooler he has cared for for years about what will happen even if she’s not his kid. The FIVE YEAR OLD is vilified for deceiving him, rather than whatever adults are behind lying to her when she was 2-3 years old.
   The dad is also that super gross type who falls for someone immediately because they’re an exact physical copy of his dead wife/first love. Like, no. Just, no.
