I am LOVING this manhwa. It’s more than a romance. there discussion of the different issues women face throughouttheir lives is so refreshing. I relate to Lilly so much. like wow, I LOVE THIS
I don’t know where you see her pushing for marriage. She said several times it’s up to her daughter, she can decide whatever. If you had art in school you should know that many painters lived in extreme poverty and was recognized only after death. It is hard to live from painting and Lily need to consider the posibility her painting may nt be selling or are hard to sell – maybe selling one painint would make her living expenses for week or even month, but maybe she can sell one paining in 6 months and then what? Besides art suplies are expensive too. She may need a job other than painting to make a living. She should also spred her horizons not focus only on painting, that what she basicaly said, she need to socialize, maybe travel. It would most likely benefit her art too, someone who has never loved or see anything would have problem with showing emotions in art.
@amx What are you on? She’s their mother and is rightfully concerned about their well-being.
@Ayameshimitsu She’s not forcing her daughter to get married at all, in fact she was ready to turn the guy down since she had a feeling her daughter wasn’t interested in him. She even said “it’s entirely up to you” regarding her marriage, she’s just trying to show her daughter that she can still enjoy other things in life without having to be afraid of losing her love for painting.
@Ayameshimitsu she’s not pushing for marriage. She’s pushing for Lily’s understanding that the path she chose young is not neccessary the only one. She just wants her daughter to see more possibilites than Lily considers now
I personally think the conversation went fine. Like, even the simple reassurance of its Fine if you fail was a nice lowering because Mildred properly took into account Lily’s character who is more determined and fiery to work in comparison to her sisters. If Lily was given a choice of an out and an opportunity to try, she would unlike Iris who would consider responsibility first and Ashley who is more meek in comparison. if this conversation happened to the others, the marriage part would have an immense more weight than the option of an out of it. I think she couldve explained to Lily better why she shouldn’t close off all her doors (not just that of marriage but in general, connecting with people) but who knows if there are any inbetween conversations these characters may have.
I understand what she is doing. This is an era where women living on their own is extremely difficult, being a painter, especially a woman is unfit for her noble title, and due to their status as nobles, Lily may not truly know what it is like to live without relying on a title. As a parent, you should ensure they understand the consequences of their choices when they may not have an idea of how hard or difficult it will be to achieve their dream or maybe romanticized how it will be, especially one as big as this where if she doesn’t marry and regrets her choice later and cannot support herself but unable to marry a noble due to her age. I understand all that, but it does come off as still pushing for the marriage a little too hard. Which is weird since she isn’t pushing especially hard. Don’t know why the way she spoke irritated me a bit.
