It’s not a “game” but more the rules of this world. Most likely implemented to prevent the author from running completely amok, breaking the rules of causality or reality, and to be fair to the humans the author has been pulling from their realities into this one.
Otherwise, the author could just do whatever, whenever and you’d end up with a very broken, insane, non functional world.
The author has the most control and influence over their own story and the major characters in that plot. He has little to no influence on the random others who populate the rest of the world (which is why Edith has so much success with the servants.
The main characters tend to function on very simplified motivations/reasoning (like “Edith bad” “Lize the best”) which is all driven towards making the plot points still happen.
If Edith starts acting differently than OG Edith, the main characters will adjust their actions to ensure the plot still happens. So if she starts acting kind, for example, they will still accuse her of being a liar who is selling secrets. If she plans to run away, they will put her under house arrest and surveillance (like we’ve seen happen with our Edith) to ensure she is still present to take part in the plot points. If she tries to change and be the heroine, they’ll break her until she willingly betrays them and dies, and so on. The plot must go on.
If our Edith had not filled the first condition, Killian would not be be listening to her at all, let alone to the small degree he is at this time.
Still, the main characters DO have to be in character. So if one of them is written to be reasonable and fair, and Edith puts them in a situation where they MUST side with her to remain reasonable and fair, they will do so.
The author is allowed to come up with new plot, but it needs to make logical sense and the characters involved behaving naturally. Trying to force them to do out of character things breaks the author’s hold.
When the author loses complete influence, the characters are freed from the plot and able to grow in any direction they like.
The hooded person is the Author. The Author has a lot of control, but not limitless. He is required by the rules of this world to set “conditions” for the transmigrator (Edith) to have an opportunity to break free of the plot. The transmigrators have no idea what these conditions are, simply that they exist, though they are told once they fulfill the condition.
The first condition is actually to “achieve a different result while following the plot”
The scene where Edith went into Kilian’s bedroom to “seduce” him is an event from the original plot. What should have happened was her getting rejected and thrown out. But snu-snu happened instead, so Edith met the first condition (kind of on a technicality. If she hasn’t kissed him before leaving, it wouldn’t have counted as her trying to seduce him) Two or three past Ediths have also filled this first condition, though not by sleeping with Kilian.
The second condition has yet to be set, and the author can tailor it (and the third, final condition) to the specific transmigrator.
Whenever a transmigrator fills a condition, the Author’s influence reduces and the main characters begin to act more naturally in response to outside influence, rather than being tied to the plot

The characters have to act as per their story which is what they’re doing but the ML is deviating I think?
