@Skite the girl was arrested because it wound up being a diplomatic issue. The person she was using to frame Edith with was a Prince. She was smearing the reputation of the Prince by arranging a secret tryst with a married and then bringing people to witness it so that it turned into a problem. It could be viewed as an insult to a foreign dignitary, but it was also an insult to the Crown Princess who arranged the event and was in charge. If the Prince felt too offended it could have ruined relations between friendly countries. On top of that, Edith was unaware of the whole situation. Was the woman was doing was also framing her and spreading lies and slander, which can also be a grave offense in high society. Insulting someone of Killian and Edith’s status is punished almost as severely as insulting the royal family, since they are a Ducal line. That alone would have made her a social pariah. But it’s more likely she was arrested because she did it at a royal event and involved guests of the royal family.
@Skite, well, arrange a private meeting between a married woman and a single man in a society like this could cause legal problems, and rushing to Edith with a fontain behind her could be considered an attempt, but given the circumstances, not as grave as deserving jail. More like the humilliation to their family for being arrested, wich is like social death
??? Why would she be arrested for that? It’s not illegal to arrange a private meeting and nothing bad or illegal happened at that meeting. If anything, she’d have won major brownie points with the foreign dignitary for helping him arrange things. Showing up like that isn’t illegal, and could have been easily excused by her saying she wanted to ensure Edith was ok. And yes, she rushed Edith, but she wasn’t holding a weapon, didn’t actually touch her, and is a noble herself. This has devolved into weird fanservice since so many were unhappy with the ending of the novel.
And now they can marry because the knight is actually royalty.
A bit of convenient, but oh well… At least something happening because the story kinda got boring now and feels like it should have ended.
