I agree in most cases when the MC meets a villain of the story the MC would usually pretend not to know that they are a bad person. Instead they would act normal around them and then secretly show people their true character or secretly dig up their evil plan behind their back to show to the world. On the other hand in this case since the story hasn’t started yet most MC in this case would try to befriend the villain or try to figure out what made them a bad person and change their ways to be good.
