To be fair, we actually don’t know that. He’s been in the battlefield his whole life, in the original time line, he saw her six months ago, asked if she was happy and said yes, that was their last meeting before he went to the battlefield again, and he said he had no reason to live. In this timeline, watching her unhappy changed everything, he didn’t go to the battlefield this time and has more interest to investigate her situation. We don’t know if in the original he was aware of what was happening to her because he was far away fighting or if he died.

Once again, as i’ve said before.
