Rereading this, i get why she went this route. If Neila was her lifeline when she was living in modern day Korea, and the OG Claudia was that bad, this would be a way to confirm for sure how Neila and Luke feel, and to see if the relationship is even salvageable.
Neila would also be naturally on guard too. I understand where she’s coming from. She’s not an illegitimate child, she’s a fallen noble. She’s got no blood ties and the father clearly favors Claudia despite knowing how she is. If Neila can’t secure a position, since she was brought in to take over Claudia’s position, she could be treated as disposable in the end. Suddenly seeing the source of your insecurity and your biggest bully act nice wouod set anyone on edge. So i get why they’re acting like that.
Maybe as i read further, Neila will become irredeemable or revealed to be a villian from the start (as these types of stories tend to go), but they did address the mentality behind folks’ actions here. OG Claudia wasn’t a good person and people wronged by her aren’t required to forgive her.
It’s a generic story and this Claudia is reckless, but I get she is giving the kind of grace she’s giving to Neila here. She’s going by the game but the game did leave things out so instead of going by just the game, going directly to the person without the fangirl pedestal in place, Claudia has to see how the Neila here acts.
I’ll have to check out the novel to see if the writing there handles all of this better (there mightve been scenes cut so the narrative doesn’t feel bloated)
Tbh I kinda have a high hopes for this story since she know a lot of knowledge from different route. And so far the story is average, idk if there’s something wrong but there’s no scene that make me feels ‘wow’. But maybe that’s only because it still early chapter.
