A part of me is hoping that the prince is really not a bad guy, and that the situation in which he grew up in made him this way.

I say this because there is a scene from when they were kids and Tia smacks him, when he insults her parents, and she tells him to tell his father what happen and how she wanted him to do that, as she will do the same.
When she and Perez walks away, the Astana mumble that he didn’t mean it, he just wanted to hang with her,

This made me feel that he just doesn’t know the right way to socialize with people. And if she or anyone were to take the sword and show him that he is wrong, he won’t be the asshole he is.

He is clearly jealous of Perez, being friends with Tia and he wants that. He also knows that Perez is better than him, and if it wasn’t for his mother, he wouldn’t be anything. So I understand his heavy dislike for perez.
Doesn’t mean its right, but I feel that if given the chance to change, he could turn out to be a nice guy.
