I agree with @KBBBBB . Also consider this, they’ve been engaged for years and the ml didn’t even try to get to know her, in the ideal state he just wanted a human incubator. And even now he admits it’s a “whim”. That’s not someone worth dying for, no definitely not.
I agree that he doesn’t love her (even if he does has feelings for her). Not 100% sure about her but I feel I can say the same. As far as her “choosing the book” over his confession, the book literally changes based on her actions. It’s not like she read a book and transmigrated and is working based of that one source. No matter how she changes herself/things, the book also changes to ultimately still reflect her death. She doesn’t want to die because of him. What would you have her do?
this is annoying on both ends… like i understand his shortcomings, but he is literally confessing to you but you’d rather choose a book over whats in front of you? seems dumb to me
