I get that she wants to support him, but it sometimes feels less like supporting the team or the sport and more like centering everything around him as a “genius.” Football is still a team game, and her sudden reappearance when it’s convenient makes the friendship feel a bit conditional. It gives off the impression that she’s more attached to his potential and success than to who he is as a person—and that’s what rubs me the wrong way.
