This story has pretty much made it apparent that all of the “bad guys” are actually good guys. They just appeared as bad guys because Ariel was too pure and didn’t understand things. Basically the knight that betrayed them because he found out the killed the witch (which in turn was actually good and had protected the forest)… the noble woman likely in her high handed manner thought they were stupid and became and obstacle because she tried to correct their stupidity… the witch likely tried to stop them because what they were doing was wrong. After all a pure being might see all such things as aggression and monsters as “evil”, but a witch would see it as part of nature. A wolf attacks other animals because it needs to eat, but humans only sees it as a danger. And the demon lord itself is probably some sad devil that fell in love with a human princess… maybe he even rescued her from a forced marriage but in order to do so he had to kidnap her. I am thinking the original story was something like that… and the protagonist witch here needs to figure this out and change things now because she has become the hero. Only problem is… what role will the original hero now play?
