I kind of get his behavior. He’s a god. Humans are meant to fear and worship him and crave his attention and love without him having to return that attention and love. But that’s all they have ever been. he never had to work to make one happy or put them on the same level as him. The arrogance and whims of gods is very familiar in folklore so his behavior isn’t that odd.
