I kind of feel for him if he wanted to be at least friendly with his wife and she didn’t or couldn’t open up to him, but he has too much pride to do the right thing. I’m very impressed with the author for not copping out and having this be a misunderstanding, like the land manager is a childhood friend or missing sister. And for not taking the similar cop out of the cheating spouse being a pure or callous villain. It’s more realistic that the feelings be complicated and the affair caused by both sides.
