Kuroihemlock, you seem to be projecting. Miss Pendleton is NOT telling Miss Hyde to learn languages. Miss Hyde is learning how to type, which certainly does not take “years”. Miss Pendleton has, several times, asked Miss Hyde if she thinks she’d like to learn to type and work in an office, and Miss Hyde has said yes. Miss Pendleton is learning languages herself for her own goals: she wants to be a tutor, not a governess, and then a school teacher.
Yeah because learning one language isn’t difficult enough and could take years, forget having the ability to teach someone. What advice is Miss Pendleton giving Miss Hyde? She acts like acquiring a language is something you can do easily. Maybe for her, but she doesn’t think not everyone is her. I feel sorry for Miss Hyde, because she’s expected to acquire skills in a short time that usually takes most people years before they even teach. Miss Hyde needs a real friend not a person that is projecting their own ideals onto them. That fact that Miss Hyde needs to be constantly guided by Miss Pendleton kind of shows that she’s not doing what she wants, doesn’t know what she wants, and might even lack the ability to think beyond what she is told to do. I wish the best, but I’m expecting a fall out soon (like what happened with the engagement with Miss Hyde’s behaviour).
