@Skite you do realize women at that time couldn’t even own anything to their name? The uncle probably had the say about the money, so since he didn’t like Laura he would have never let granny buy her a house, plus it would have been another scandal to their family. An illegitimate child owning an estate and being a woman too? But let’s say somehow she gets a house. She would need a maid, and she has to pay her, and she has no money.
There are unfortunately no loopholes concerning her matter. The absolute best that could have happened to her is successfully getting adopted into her mom’s family. Sadly or not, there are countless historical manwhas that are not accurate one bit(no hate). Laura’s feelings toward Ian are natural. She was left alone by her dad, her uncle @bused her and everyone calls her an “old maid out of her prime) she’s judged and she has to endure. Ian is in no way an ass. He’s really considerate of her feelings and you can feel the YEARNING, which is beautifully presentated.
It might come off as different because, again, historically accurate manwhas are rare. This is a realistic love story with complicating matters adding to the hardship they have to go through in order to finally be together. So, absolutely no hate in any way 🫶, but you missed the point of the whole plot.
Well, I just lost a lot of respect for grandma. It would have done Laura a lot better if grandma had left her as a possible heir, or, at minimum, settled a house and lump sum on Laura from her own funds before she signed her son’s papers. Gotta use those loop holes.
