Maybe if he will move on and try to court another woman, she will be jealous and will learn that she has feelings for me? It will be too late girly 🙄
She’s indecisive and second guessing herself. Really Laura gave bad advice, because she expects Jane to have the same decisive behaviour as herself. Jane was assurance and security. Telling her to live as a typeset and live in a boarding house is dumb. Jane won’t want to live in a boarding house when she’s 40, she’ll be alone, without connections maybe. Also not many people will hire a woman, maybe more a governess but that grind is temporary. Laura should have reassured her and maybe asked her what she liked about Fairfax. Because if he’s a terrible person then that’s understandable but you don’t have to be romantically swept off your feet to be in a relationship. I think Jane was feeling pressured from the mother and if she had more time think and maybe even opened up to Fairfax maybe he would have been understanding. You can’t ‘listen to your heart’ because you’re too confused to even understand or know what’s good for you. Or you some ideal that isn’t attainable or are scared of committing .
