If she lets the Duke sell some of his most valuable property for her, she will owe him for life and that puts her under his control.
She is being super stupid about how she’s selling this discovery (with zero advertisement, at a place where people were expecting to buy farmland, not sea ports and resort development sites, plus she could just charge everyone rental/usage fees and make a shit ton without losing the property itself) but it’s a story and this is the most dramatic reveal possible.
I bet she will wind up being pregnant, but with this, she will be in a superior economic position, and he will have to actively change and win her back.
