I know the novel played up the paranoia better, which is why she was so sloppy but good grief. She would’ve been legendary as a villian if she was competent 😭😭
She overplayed her hand before this and she messed up here. She should’ve went for an official position when she still had ppl favoring her then used that to get a family to adoot her in. They’d be her protection in case the prince messes up and the official title would be hard to remove without going to trial. She’s a commoner so having three types of backing along with her charm would’ve been a good political shield bc someone who thought they could gain her favor would’ve been her defense without her trying
She was trying to avoid a title to better dodge any official responsibility but even official concubines and mistresses would have shielding. It would’ve given her an official reasons to use others to do her dirty work
