I agree @thesecretlover the king didn’t do any of that cause he care for them and wanted them to be strong. It was more of a boredom after being king for so long. Watching his sons act like rats finally getting some cheese was fun to him. He wanted a show and got it. He didn’t love them one bit. It was all a chess game to past the time for him. In my opinion. Side note: I’m so worried about the ml he hasn’t slept for days and when he does he might not come back.

I don’t think that’s true. At the very start our ML had woken from a coma the OGML put him in and the emperor didn’t do anything about it. All he wanted was a useful heir and now he dies with a useful heir in place.
I do feel bad for the current king bc I’m sure as much as he did set them boys up like this, he didn’t want them to die, especially because of Rosetta. I’m sure part of him would’ve been so fragile even if he survived all of this

I honestly wanted to see both sons survive this and see if they could have a better dynamic without the threat of the plot ruining things. But i guess since they (Rosetta and the prince) took the roles of the antagonists here, death was their only ending
