They seem to have chosen to depict Grey’s very low ki pool rather than just describing, which is of course more fitting here.
Well, the reason why he’s so proficient in close quarter combat in both his lives stems from that anyway. He’s always been sparse and efficient in using his ki because he could never afford to waste it to start with, so he had to refine his technique to survive and en the end, rise to the top.
I guess, if they go on showing the spar in his previous life, his opponent will show off and waste his ki. Grey can only win by being resourceful and a better fighter, whereas his opponent will probably try to overpower him without much technique. They’re all beginner cadets at this points, and the guy looks pretty conceited…
