Glad I’m not the only one who felt weird about this. FL has a flawed view of family. If they handled this by making more like her projecting her views onto the girl and this being a mildly bad decision, I’d be more onboard. To later have her worry about her parents and it impacting the work. And for FL to come to terms that not everything is black and white.
yeah, this was way to forced to make the fl look like a gracious and generous person but in the end she didnt even know the circumstances, on one hand she did help her siblings escape the same poverty as their parents but in doing so she condemed the parents and the older brother which we dont know if he is doing his best or is just a piece of trash. Who knows maybe the brother is trying hard to get a good education to help all his siblings, and maybe the parents are also trying really hard, we were told they were sick, we dont really know if that was a lie we were never shown their faces, if they were expliting their children why did they let them go so easily, surely they cant be taken away just like that even if its a noble
That’s…kind of weird. The parents aren’t abusive or evil, they’re just poor. Which means they have to make difficult decisions, like only being able to pay for one child, the oldest, to study, and only being able to do that if they all pool their resources. Yes, it sucks a lot that they need their children to work and that they expect a family member who manages to escape poverty to turn around and help them all out, but again….that’s just being poor. You have to snowball the benefits until everyone escapes poverty. Sure, one would have an easier time if they get out and don’t look back, but they probably wouldn’t have ever gotten out in the first place without the support of the others. For a family this poor to have gotten her art supplies, which would be expensive and frivolous, that does signal that the parents weren’t horrible monsters.

That’s honestly so wrong like they’re acting like she did an amazing generous act
But I don’t agree
