I love world building, but if we looked at this in the reverse, we’ve gotten more of it with the ‘side story’ than we’ve gotten with the main story. In a shorter amount of time we’ve had more mermaid and even butler flashbacks than any other character previous. It’s obvious to readers that the pacing and tone shift also accompanied a new set of characters that have lingered for a long time for those who were following in real time. If you imagine it in the reverse, Imagine that we had a couple chapters of the mermaids and then suddenly they showed up in THEIR story, and for the next year of real time updates it was ENTIRELY about those wolves/dragons, when you started reading a story about mermaids? I completely agree that the shift was weird and the stay is long. More information dense than any other section of the world and it’s not even about the main plot line. It stands out for this reason and is drawn out excessively — and for what? We don’t know yet.
Like, as omniscient readers, we know that whatever that man just ‘gave his life for’ SEEMS to be hinting at something utterly pointless. EVERYONE already knows she’s a wolf, she’s the only one ignorant of that fact. The only way that this makes any sense plot wise is if she gets punished for telling the truth like a mermaid/siren does from this point onwards… so punishing her severely after she tries to speak the truth that she wants to share. But not only does that not REALLY make sense in the grand scheme of things, but Im pretty sure the “mermaids get punished for speaking truth” was part of the lies/brainwashing… lol.
Lot of valid criticisms about the duration and density of what was presented as a side plot that had very little to do with the main cast, but if they manage to tie it back in I’m willing to endure. Still, I hope they don’t keep dragging it out. it’s been almost a year of mermaids in my wolf/dragon love story.
But with this guy it’s wild to be so tunnel vision… also his life force? I don’t get how getting that will ruin her. Cause it will reveal her identity, well everyone knows it she just doesn’t know they know lol
