Hmm I think she might have some degree of magical resistance. Like how the memory spell on her was slipping-her hair color returned and then with someone merely mentioning her mom, her memories returned. Then we can guess that the emperor has been under some sort of spell based on him being bedridden all this time and how it specifically says Labdunum convinced him to suggest the coronation etc. So my guess is that the magic circle outside his door is somehow part of why he’s bedridden and the control over him and that whatever happened when she stepped on it allowed the emporer to regain control enough for this exchange where he’s asking her to save the empire. Anyway, that’s my current theory.
