I think you are missing the point. The wizard is trying to seduce her and subjugate her because he wants her magic, Kissing is how he gets that magic and it has to be through consent. The princess has realized that’s what he wants which is why she flirts back and dangls it in front of him. It’s what he wants and he has a hard time resisting, as Hellar said he will be unable to not fall in love with her, but he is doing his best to resist her. It’s a mind game between them. He wants to possess her and she wants to use him without being possessed by him so she keeps him in check. The flirting isn’t pointless and there are no true feelings behind it.
