One reason I don’t really read werewolf stories is it always leans into toxic masculinity stereotypes of Alpha. I don’t mind strong, powerful ML, but werewolf stories always start leaning into control over the female. There are certain ways it can be done without it being annoying. I also give more grace to animal FL to red flag behavior due to them being animals or a different species so I try not to place human standards on it (I’ve even delved into that with my own stories I’ve written that have vampires, dragons, or gods in it where its acknowledged in story that the behavior would be red flag to humans but is very much perceived differently to the species involved), but for some reason werewolf stories rarely seem to do it for me.
