I can’t even imgaine for the guy. Came from Korea, basically forced into an engagement and sent to war. I would understand him being distant the entire time. Feeling used. Discriminated against. Not having a say in anything but needing to rely on these people to survive. he could have just fell into depression and going through the motions. I know the story won’t dive into that, but if the author was smart, they’d use that premise well.
